Yesterday I started the engine for the first time. Many things went wrong, but after regrouping today and taking care of some odds and ends, it is running great. I bolted a battery box through existing holes in the transmission crossmember, hooked up a starter relay on the frame, made a mini dashboard that I mounted to the top of the radiator, and wired it all up. The mini dashboard is a set of guages that I bought. Since I didn't need the ammeter gauge, I removed it and put an ignition switch in its place. I left the oil pressure and temperature gauges, but had to replace the temp guage because it didn't work. I really wanted to get it started because it has been three years since I put the engine together and I was worried about rust forming inside the engine. My next step is to concentrate on assembling the steering and brake components, most of which I have already rebuilt and painted. Hopefully that will be finished by this fall.
